awesome artistic presence of Ukrainian Dance as a major
contributor to the arts community within Canada. We
are especially grateful for the partnership we have

OLEKSA
LOZOWCHUK
“Thanks to the Shevchenko Foundation, I was able
to complete the recording of a new chamber work entitled
“Bright Sadness”, written for solo cello
and accompaniment, loosely based on ancient Slavic/Carpathian
folk past with a unique Western instrument, the cello.
The work weaves both folkloric and sacred traditions
together, reflecting and reconciling two distinct emotions
within human experience — joy and sadness. The
Shevchenko Foundation has often supported my artistic
endeavours and for that I am very grateful.” |

EDMONTON
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
“Composer Marian Kouzan was in attendance as the
ESO performed his tribute to Poet Taras Shevchenko “Poslaniye–The
Final Message” during their 50th anniversary Gala

and singing came together to display many parts of Shevchenko’s
works. The crowd rose in applause for both the work
of Shevchenko and that of composer Kouzan himself. The
Shevchcnko Foundation in part made this evening possible
with its support.” |
