37TH ANNUAL NATIONAL UKRAINIAN FESTIVAL
RECEIVES UCFTS SUPPORT
August 1, 2002
Dauphin, Manitoba – The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation
of Taras Shevchenko (UCFTS) today announced a grant contribution
in the amount of $3,000 towards Canada’s National Ukrainian
Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba, August 2-4, 2002.
For 37 years the people of Dauphin have welcomed the world
to their community and have shared with them the rich Ukrainian
culture which is the hallmark of this prairie city. Situated
3.5 hours northwest of Winnipeg, the citizens of Dauphin play
host to the largest celebration of Ukrainian heritage and
talent in North America. This avenue provides an opportunity
for artists, dancers, performers and crafts people to display
their product.
The 2002 Grandstand Showcase, which is the primary focus
of the monies being provided by UCFTS, showcases professional
and semi-professional talent from Canada and around the world.
Housed in the Selo Ukraina, this 10,000 seat amphitheatre
will provide audiences of every generation an opportunity
to view and experience a wide variety of entertainment that
will light up the prairie sky.
“Once again the UCFTS is pleased to be an active and
energetic supporter of this Festival,” said UCFTS President
Andrew Hladyshevsky, Q.C. “The people of Dauphin are
to be commended for their efforts and the warmth of their
hospitality in allowing the world see each and every year
the pride of their community.”
The UCFTS was incorporated under an Act of Parliament in
1963, and has grown to nearly $7 million. The Foundation supports
projects throughout the country that will enhance the Ukrainian
Canadian community. Since 1964-65, the Foundation has provided
nearly $4.5 million dollars in support for the work of the
community.
