“UKRIANIAN DAY IN THE PARK”
RECEIVES UCFTS SUPPORT
August 23, 2002
Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation
of Taras Shevchenko (UCFTS) today announced its support for
Ukrainian Day in the Park in the amount of $2,500.00. Hosted
by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Saskatoon Branch
on August 24-25, 2002, this event reinforces the pride of
youth and adults in their Ukrainian heritage, showcases Ukrainian
culture to the community at large and establishes a Ukrainian
Festival coinciding with Ukraine’s Independence Day.
“The Ukrainian community of Saskatoon is to be commended
for their enthusiasm and drive in developing this festival,”
said UCFTS President Andrew Hladyshevsky, Q.C. “This
promises to be two wonderful days of celebration and friendship.”
The Day in the Park will coincide with the celebration of
the 11th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. Various
activities are scheduled for Saskatoon’s picturesque
riverbank park, with the main event being a concert consisting
of dance troupes, choirs and instrumental groups. Other activities
will include a poet’s corner, music, kiosks and cultural
displays. A flag raising ceremony and prayer service will
be held at city hall, as well as a charity dinner.
