COMMEMORATIVE BOOKMARKER ISSUED IN HONOUR OF UKRAINE'S
GREATEST POET: TARAS SHEVCHENKO
March 5, 2003
Winnipeg -- The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation
of Taras Shevchenko (Shevchenko Foundation) today announced
the release of its new commemorative bookmarker as part
of the community celebrations surrounding the birth
of Taras Shevchenko during the month of March. The commemorative
bookmarker entitled And All is Still has been
produced from the original watercolour, commissioned
by the Foundation, for these celebrations, by world
renowned artist Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn.
"We are so blessed as a community
to have such talented people like Larisa who give back
to their community in so many ways," said Foundation
President Andrew Hladyshevsky, Q.C. "What a wonderful
remembrance this will be for many during this month
long celebration throughout our community."
Over the last two years the Foundation has designated
the month of March as Shevchenko Month. During this
month a particular aspect of the Ukrainian Canadian
community is showcased and provided with a commemorative
bookmarker. The focus for this year are the wonderful
schools of Ukrainian dance, who will receive a bookmarker
from the Foundation.
"Throughout the month of March, our
community is reminded about the significant contributions
made by Shevchenko through his creative endeavours,"
said Hladyshevsky. "The various concerts, readings
and lectures on the life and times of Shevchenko, bring
all aspects of our community - young and old alike -
to express pride in our culture and renewal of our spirit
to ensure our traditions remain strong and vibrant."
A sample of the bookmarker may be viewed on the Foundation's
Website at www.shevchenkofoundation.com.
